My jewelry and installations unite art and healing energy. Healing makes me feel empowered and making jewelry makes me feel complete. Healing is achieved through Reiki - a form of healing technique that connects you to the energy of the universe to restore physical and emotional well-being. My jewelry is an energy field of the cosmos. My focus is on the third eye chakra or the sixth sense. The third eye is associated with alertness and awareness. I want the wearer of my jewelry to walk a spiritual path towards enlightenment and bliss. The forms, metal, and stones in my jewelry radiate a positive energy that inspires inner transformation. I create forms that stem from my subconscious mind. These organic flowing line forms reflect the harmony generated through healing.
Important elements in my work include attributes from the mythological stories of Lord Shiva who was the first entity to open the third eye. Shiva represents the body with life and motion. Shiva’s attributes include potential, space, consciousness. Shiva is the whole creation and infinite divinity. Shiva’s adornments include rudraksha seeds for their healing properties, the crescent moon symbolic for wisdom, the serpent as a symbol of alertness, the Ganges river symbolic for knowledge, the lingam, the genital which represents the truth. I use organic materials like wood, copper, crystals, paper because they are close to the universe. The colors of my work are brown from natural wood, black from patina and indigo blue from crystals or mixed media of ink and color pencils. Indigo blue is the color of the third eye chakra and blue signifies the sky; the all-pervading infinity which has no limits, and no shape. I hand carve the wood in the shape of the “lingam” and “Yoni” the respective male and female genitals to represent their union as a form of celebration, creation and the completion of the total Supreme Consciousness. I accompany my wood carving with forged and formed elements in copper wire to balance the flow of energy lines. The experience of healing and meditation is ineffable, indescribable and inexpressible and these translate into abstract forms of my jewelry. It is celestial and I show that by using different media like a painting, small sculpture and jewelry together. I can compare this to someone going to a temple and feeling better. Each of my jewelry work aspires to represent the state of transcendence, stillness, silence, and bliss. |
